CT SCANNER PROJECT

Fort Nelson General Hospital

Initiated by long-time local physician, Dr. Marius Mostert, the addition of a CT Scanner at the Fort Nelson General Hospital will provide an invaluable service to the residents of the Northern Rockies, our neighbours and visitors.

The successful implementation of the CT Scanner involves collaboration between various stakeholders, including local businesses, healthcare providers and community members, showcasing the power of collective effort in improving health services. A preferred CT Scanner model has been selected by a committee of qualified health professionals who will rely on the equipment once operational, and a design has been completed to co-locate the machine with the X-Ray equipment (also slated for replacement) within the diagnostic imaging (DI) department at the Fort Nelson General Hospital. The estimated project cost (with contingency) is $8.2M. - The Northern Rockies Regional Hospital District has committed 40% of required project funding ($3.3M) - A modest portion of the project’s funding will be required from external sources such as grants and contributions from partners such as the Rotary Club of Fort Nelson and the Fort Nelson Hospital & Healthcare Foundation coordinating donations from local and regional supporters. The balance of funding required will be requested from the Province of BC, both directly and through the Northern Health Authority. - Since 2021, the Fort Nelson Rotary Club has dedicated annual fundraising efforts to support the CT Scanner project. With approximately 400 patients from Fort Nelson access CT Scanning services outside of their home community annually, a CT Scanner will enhance access to advanced diagnostic imaging for residents, reducing the need for travel to larger urban centres. With the new CT scanner, patients can receive quicker diagnoses, leading to faster treatment plans and improved health outcomes, particularly for patients experiencing a stroke, and those with critical conditions. Investing in technology like a CT Scanner ensures that our hospital remains equipped to meet both the evolving healthcare needs of our community, and of the health professionals providing care, now and in the future. This project represents a vital investment in our community’s health infrastructure, ensuring that high-quality medical services are available locally and supporting the overall well-being of our population.
